Interleague 2021
Message from Interleague Secretary:
2021 is all about getting our players some form of competitive pool and relaxing rules a little to make sure this happens successfully.
It was decided to hold a KO Cup, played to the same format as in previous full years.
13 Teams (all 2020 teams with the exception of Frank Smith) agreed to enter.
Two dates were proposed to complete this competition with the EPA calendar and WRPT tours making available dates tight.
Friday 22nd October preliminary round
Sunday 14th November KO Cup finals event
Format:
The top 3 teams from the last completed season gained automatic entry into the KO Cup proper (SLKPA, Waterloo & Battersea A).
10 remaining teams competed in the preliminary round via an open draw which was played on Friday 22nd Oct in a 27 frame match, race to 14 frames with the winners progressing to the KO Cup proper.
Teams were drawn (see below) either at home or away, just like a usual Interleague league match, with the only difference being that the match ended once a team reached 14 frames.
This provided 8 teams who competed on Sunday 14th November starting at 1pm

Players:
In 2021 the rules were relaxed. Players were not required to be EPA registered to play in the event.
GLCPA asked that teams were only made up of players that played within their respective leagues to ensure fair play.
Players that played for teams in 2020 were free to play for a different team in 2021, but once a player played in 2021 for a team they weren't permitted to change teams (or leagues).
Therefore team captains were free to select any player currently playing in their respective league, or were playing within the league pre Covid if their league hadn't started yet.
It is likely that successful teams in this event will go forward as GLCPA representatives at the National Interleague Finals in early April 2022.

Paul Gafa'
